Puerto De La Cruz is a beautiful little town in north Tenerife. It has amazing culture, friendly people, great swimming spots and best of all fantastic places to eat some gluten free meals. As always make sure to mention you are Coeliac so they can take extra precautions in the places that are not fully gluten free on this list.
Toc Toc
This is a fully gluten free and vegan cafe right in the heart of Puerto De La Cruz. It's a lovely spot to go for some lunch without any worries of getting glutened. The bread and sandwiches were really tasty here. It is definitely worth checking out.
Vinoteca Con Pasión
Was delighted with the gluten free options in this restaurant. The tapas were delicious. They also had some gluten free bread, I think it was Schar. But the most incredible was the dessert. Probably the best brownie I've ever had, it was a caramel brownie with cream and icecream. If you go here you have to try this brownie!
Advans
This captivating crepe haven that will transport you to a realm of pure culinary bliss. What sets this place apart is its ingenious use of buckwheat crepes, which not only boast a delicious flavour but are also naturally gluten-free. Here, dietary restrictions need not limit your gastronomic adventures. You can indulge in the tantalising world of crepes with the assurance that each bite is a symphony of taste and texture. Whether you find yourself craving savoury delights or succumbing to the allure of sweet temptation, this crepe haven is the place to be. From the savoury mushroom carbonara masterpiece to the heavenly Nutella and strawberry sweet sensation, you will not be disappointed.
El Limon
El Limon is an absolute gem of a restaurant, a vegetarian burger paradise that goes above and beyond to cater to every dietary need. With an extensive menu of plant-based wonders, this place not only satisfies veggie lovers but also caters to the needs of those following a vegan or gluten free diet. The perfectly seasoned patty, crafted from a symphony of fresh vegetables and savory spices, is a true work of art. Its incredible texture and juiciness rival that of any meat-based counterpart, proving that vegetarian options can be just as enticing, if not more so! Bonus fact: the gluten free bun actually looks better than the regular buns.
La Grifería
Prepare to be captivated by the charm of a fabulous little cocktail bar, nestled near the vibrant Plaza De Charco. This hidden gem is a haven for cocktail enthusiasts, offering not only an impressive array of drinks but also a delightful food experience. Brace yourself for an unforgettable visit filled with tantalising gluten-free options, delectable tapas, and a captivating assortment of unique cocktail glasses.
When it comes to satisfying your appetite, this cocktail bar truly shines with its standout gluten-free beef burger. Prepare to embark on a mouthwatering journey as you sink your teeth into a burger that is expertly crafted with gluten free perfection. Each bite is a celebration of flavours, as the succulent beef harmonises with carefully selected ingredients, creating a culinary masterpiece that will leave you craving more.
This is a great place to try out some tapas options too, such as a vegetable curry, potatoes bravas, and grilled cheese. The last time I was there they gave me a plate of gluten free bread that was actually really tasty. Cheers to the perfect blend of flavour, style, and atmosphere that make this cocktail bar a must see.
Indian Crown
I am obsessed with the Chicken Tikka Masala in this Indian Restaurant. It's so delicious. Most of the dishes can be done Gluten Free anyway but I am guilty of going back and ordering the same thing every time!
Pizzeria La Tasquita
This pizza place is located in Plaza De Charco, it was recommended to me by a randomer that got chatting to at the port who was drinking a gluten free beer. After asking him when he got the beer he mentioned that I must try the pizza here in La Tasquita. It did not disappoint, it was one of the best gluten free pizza's I've had.
If you are in Puerto you really must try out this restaurant. If you do, get ready to indulge in a thin and crispy crust that sets the stage for a symphony of flavours brought to life by the use of incredibly fresh and delicious toppings. Many pizza have a look and texture of a "store bought" base, but this one is very different, it is super fresh and stacks up very well next to the regular pizzas (from what I hear from the gluten eaters).
La Tapería
Great place if you are looking for some tasty tapas, the staff are really good with Gluten free and will tell you what they can do gluten free.
Don Camilo
Prepare to discover yet another delightful pizza haven, conveniently situated just a short stroll away from La Tasquita. This charming establishment beckons you with the promise of exceptional pizza experiences, making it a challenging task to determine which pizza takes top place! I feel I will need to revisit both again when I get back to Puerto next time 😁
Compostelana
While I understand you may have had your fill of pizza talk, it's worth mentioning that this restaurant chain also offers pizza alongside various other gluten-free options. However, it's important to note that their gluten-free pizza doesn't quite reach the same level of quality as the other pizza places in town. The pizza tends to be overly cheesy, and the crust falls slightly short, resembling the quality of a frozen pizza.
So, while their gluten free pizza might not match up to the standards set by other establishments, this restaurant chain offers a diverse menu and demonstrates a commendable effort to accommodate gluten free eaters with pasta, bread, tapas, fish and many meat dishes.
Ristta Thai Food
Went to this lovely Thai restaurant for a friends birthday, located in the center of Puerto De La Cruz. I tried the Pad Thai dish on this occasion and it would be worth a visit here for this alone. With every mouthwatering bite of the Pad Thai, you'll find yourself immersed in a harmonious blend of flavours and textures. The combination of stir-fried noodles, perfectly cooked proteins, and an exquisite balance of sweet, savoury, and tangy notes creates a symphony of taste that is nothing short of incredible. Each ingredient is thoughtfully selected and expertly prepared, resulting in a dish that captures the essence of authentic Thai cuisine.
Alanda
If you are looking for some fresh fish, this restaurant is a lovely family run restaurant just outside the centre of the town and close to the beaches. They really understand about gluten free and cross contamination as they have a family member with a severe wheat allergy. They are also lovely and friendly and very accommodating.
Al Amir
This Lebanese restaurant is tucked away near Plaza de Charco. While it may require a keen eye to spot its discreet location, it is worth the search. The knowledgeable staff at this Lebanese establishment understands the importance of providing a safe and enjoyable dining experience for those with dietary restrictions. I was impressed with their expertise on cross contamination. Their were plently of gluten free options and supplied some tasty gluten free bread with the meal also. I had a delicious pistachio panna cotta type of thing for dessert.
The Brunch Factory
The is a lovely little brunch place in the center of Puerto De La Cruz. I usually get the eggs, avocado and gluten free bread.
Baraka Cafe & Grill
This cafe has a number of great lunch type options to choose from. I have sampled the Arepa here on a number of occasions. This traditional Venezuelan delicacy can be found in numerous establishments throughout Puerto but the best one I've tried is here at the Baraka Cafe. It's important to note that arepas are naturally gluten free; however, when ordering, kindly inform the waiter of your dietary preference to ensure they are grilled instead of fried, as is customary.
However, beware not all arepas are made equally. The best I found was this place but some other places, the gluten free arepas are totally different, way smaller and dense, not light and fluffy like the regular ones.
Gran Tarajal Sin Gluten [Location: La Orotava (10mins from Puerto)]
This quaint restaurant in La Orotava boasts a remarkable distinction—it is fully 100% gluten-free. Whether you find yourself a local or a visitor in Orotava it's just a short 10min drive up from Puerto De La Cruz. The bread was fresh and warm like it was just out of the oven. There was any amount of gluten free deserts to choose from, downstairs they have shelves and fridges with gluten free deserts and treats, many options from the Backer Sin Gluten in Santa Cruz too. I ate way too much of course with the shear excitement of being able to order anything on the menu!
