Lisbon was such a treat, a really cool city with lots of tasty gluten free options. I was only there for a few days for web summit so I only managed to fit in a few restaurants. I didn't have a bad meal all week. Many restaurants were certified gluten free which gave that extra peace of mind when dining out too.
Craft Burgers
On the first day we stumbled across this burger place with a big sign outside saying it was fully gluten free. They did serve my friend a normal gluten beer, so always make sure to mention you are Coeliac and double check even when in a fully gluten free place. I got the "Mirandeles" and it was incredible. The burger comes without a bun but you don't need it because you get a decent side of fries along side it. This burger had a double patty with bacon and a fried egg.
Grom
This is a lovely gluten free spot that I can never walk past, even though I am not a big ice-cream person, I just love Grom because it's no tasty and they have the best gluten free cones. I had them before in Rome too, so I just had to try out the Lisbon editon when I was strolling around the city center. I just went with a plain vanilla this time with a chocolate and nut covered cone.
Bali Do Cais
Loved this certified gluten free Indonesian restaurant, it was my first time trying the traditional Pastel de nata, gluten free of course! The staff were incredibly attentive to gluten free. I tried the chicken skewers for starters and then the pork ribs for the main course. It was all delicious. They also had gluten free beer too.
Totale Pizza
Of course it wouldn't have been a trip without a gluten free pizza! This pizza did not disappoint! They even had multiple gluten free bases to choose from, such a treat for Coeliacs! I choose the rice and charcoal base pizza with my usual Diabola type of toppings. The base was so thin and light and crispy, it was honestly amazing to see what can be achieved with gluten free limitations. Highly recommend this place if you are going to Lisbon.
Confraria Lx
Really enjoyed this sushi which is located in the big Timeout market, such a great idea as there were loads of different types of bars and restaurants in this location, so handy if you are going with a group and everyone wants different types of food. Lots of the sushi was gluten free or could be made gluten free.
Restaurante Rio Grande
You will no doubt be visiting Pink Street if you are travelling to Lisbon, it is an iconic street painted pink with lots of bars and restaurants. We came here one of the nights and we tried the Rio Grande restaurant which with had a few gluten free options. I went for the chorizo starter, the waiter came out and cooked it in front of us in a plate with a flame, which was pretty cool. It was super tasty too. I ordered the fish and veg for my main course, after a pretty heavy week of eating rich foods it was really nice to just have something really healthy and tasty.
McDonalds @ the airport
Not too much options at the airport and i didn't have time to pack a lunch so I got myself a Mc Donalds for breakfast! It's not too often you can get a gluten free burger in mc Donalds so it has it be done once in a while.
